A girl stands in the darkness of a room that resembles a normal bedroom. She is in her teens with blonde hair and blue eyes dressed in a simple blue gown soiled with sweat and dirt. Because the room is dark you can only barely see a bed, a desk and a dresser. There are no windows or doors into the room, but two large panes of glass that make up the walls.
Through the first wall opposite the bed you can see only darkness. However as you stare at the other glass pane you can see through to scientific equipment and a man dressed in a lab coat sitting in a chair observing the girl. Beside him is a nurse or assistant standing and waiting for anything the scientist or doctor might require.
The girl stands in front of the second pane of glass and looks directly at the scientist but to her it only reflects her own image. Suddenly a voice comes over the intercom. It is the doctor talking.
"Please tell me about yourself," he says.
The girl begins to tell a story about her life, omitting her name because she doesn't recall what it is. She speaks for several minutes describing herself in simple vocabulary and begins to say what she enjoys doing with her time. When she is speaking about her hobbies, she tells the voice about her dear younger brother. When the two of them are together they enjoy singing songs. Sometimes she sings along even though she doesn't have the best singing voice, or she dances flailing her arms and legs however she wants to.
"Tell me about your brother," the voice says.
Again the girl answers speaking for minutes describing her brother. He is younger than her, and looks kind of like her as well but with shorter hair and a thicker physique. The doctor and nurse listen in silence but take down notes of what she is saying. After she is finished, she looks into the glass straight into the doctor's eyes and says, "...but I haven't seen him in a long time. Have you seen my brother?"
Only silence greets her question.
On the other side of the glass the doctor and the nurse begin talking to each other.
"This is a failure too isn't it, doctor."
"I'm afraid it is. Please terminate subject number six, and start the experiment using the next medicine with subject number seven."
"Yes, doctor. It's just so sad. People with her disease suffer from false memories in order to cope with the pain. The girl that this specimen is based off does not have a brother. Are all the subjects with this disease going to act in the same manner?"
"It is possible. That is why it is imperative that we find the cure."
The lights in the girls room turn on for a second and you see the girl has bright red rashes all along her body. Her veins seem to pop out and pulse every few seconds. Some of her hair has fallen out and exposes the the red skin on her scalp. The girl sees herself in the reflection clearly but makes no mention about it. Instead she continues to ask her question until her voice becomes a scream that is both pained and hoarse.
"Have you seen my brother?"
"Have you seen my brother?"
"Have you seen my brother?"
She keeps saying it until it becomes a dry whisper.
The lights in her room slowly dim and the room adjacent to her is now lit up.
Standing in the room is a girl that is slightly younger than her, with the same blonde hair and blue eyes, the same blue dress. The room is also arranged in the same manner as hers. The little girl, in her early teens, is singing and dancing alone in her room. She is staring at a particular spot in the room that is empty but keeps talking to it every now and then.
In the dark room the teenager stares at the same spot and her eyes open wide. On her face is a smile.
"There you are, my brother. Why were you hiding from me?" She chuckles.
She begins to sing the same song that her younger self is singing in the other room, even though she cannot hear her through the glass. And then the room becomes pitch black.
