D&D Atlas: Duskhome

Duskhome

A town of elves in the Bahren Forest.  One of many elven communities east of the Sylvan Veil, a place where the mortal world links to the Fey Realm.

Compared to the other elven communities, Duskhome is smaller but not as rural, with many of its shops and its grounded tavern welcoming to non elven patrons.  The elves of the village use homes carved near the tops of the trees, while below these elf only buildings are more standard human dwellings made of wood, stone and mortar.

Duskhome was a critical battle point between the Goddess Avandra and a primordial during the Dawn War.  Though the primordial's name is lost, legend speaks of its powerful weapon being interred in the Goddess temple.

Meet the NPCS: Tomasz, the Traveling Trader

Tomasz, Traveling Trader

Tomasz is a large man with a big heart that aids the party by giving them discounts on magical goods.  He also purchases any items the party doesn't need, and makes the first adventuring contract with the elf elder in Duskhome.

He hails from the Eastern Lordships and was a Weapon Supplier during the Great War.  However, after meeting the party as previous mercenaries and the dissolution of the company due to the death of the lord that they served, he led the small band to the west in search of adventure.

Beneath the soft exterior, the trader carries a much darker secret.

Meet the Characters: Vanielle

Vanielle, Elven Assassin

Born as an orphan, Vanielle had a hard life living in the Feywild.  She struggled to find enough scraps to fill her belly, so she turned to a life of thievery.  After self training, she managed to steal from wealthy non-Fey merchants that found themselves in the land of the bright.  She would then share her wealth with the other orphans so that they would not have to live the same hardships.

News from the mortal realm came of a massive war happening with the Eastern Lordships.  Vanielle decided to join as a mercenary in order to gain what would be massive profit from the war, as well as find treasure on the side.  She quickly made friends with Tomasz, the Supply Master, who would often give her an extra gold from his deals with the mercenary camps.

After the mercenary company fell apart, Vanielle continued on with Tomasz and formed a band of adventurers.

Succumbing to her own greed, Vanielle opened a suspicious treasure chest during the party's travels.  As the darkness consumed her, she found herself in an ordeal with the Shadowfell.  In exchange for a portion of her soul she was transformed into an Assassin.

Meet the Characters: Hadarai

Hadarai, Eladrin Arcanist

Born from the union of an Eladrin and an Archfey, Hadarai had a difficult time fitting into Archfey society.  His lesser Eladrin blood prevented him from being accepted in the higher circles, and the powers that should be natural to all Archfey were slow to develop in him.  Hadarai left the Fortress of Frozen Tears and the Vale of the Long Night to become a wizard in the natural realm.

Avoiding the elven villages near the fey barrier, he instead found a small circle of mages in the arctic lands.  He studied for a few years from the mages there and was quick to learn enhanced by his Archfey blood.  Hadarai went south to the Eastern Lordships to join a small mercenary company in order to practice his arcane magic.

Meet the Characters: Thorry the Reckless

Thorry the Reckless, Tiefling Skald

Being born in the frontier Thorry had to endure shortages and the lack of civilization.  Instead of working at the Rainbow mines or under the Laborers of Erathis, builders and masons that helped create towns in the borderlands, the young Tiefling instead joined the Chorus of Thunder, a bardic group that spread tales and used its arcane magic to fight back the dangers of the frontier.

He left the Chorus of Thunder in order to add more stories to his belt, and find his own companions that needed his magical assistance.  Traveling west to the Eastern Lordships, Thorry joined a small mercenary band beholden to Lord Chestershire and sought fame and glory in righteous battle.

Meet the Characters: Konthane

Konthane, Changeling Rogue

Before he joined the party, Konthane lived within a secret Changeling village in the Underdark.  The townspeople used their changeling powers to avoid the dangers of the shallows and for a long time they had enjoyed peace.  However, their tricks could not last for long as an invasion of the Far Realm attacked and saw through their illusion.  Konthane managed to escape with a friend, but the aberrants of the Far Realm had managed to place their psychic insanity upon him.  Every now again in the silence Konthane can hear madness from a plane between the stars.

The Changeling used his chameleon powers and learned how to be a rogue, then joined a mercenary company in the eastern lordships.  When the lord he served perished, Konthane joined Tomasz and became an adventurer.

D&D Meet the Characters: Torion

Torion, Minotaur Weaponmaster

Before reaching adulthood Torion was taken by an evil lord.  The bull was forced to guard a labyrinth created by Lord Bastar to protect the human's treasure at Bastar Keep.  He fought countless warriors and whatever magical beasts they summoned earning him with an innate sense of battle knowledge.  The constant strain of battle, however, caused Torion to enter a chaotic rage that allowed him to escape from Bastar's labyrinth.

Wounded from his escape, Torion found an old knight who helped bring him back to health.  Elias, the Wandering Knight, taught the minotaur the ways of the fighter, and Torion became a fierce weaponmaster.

After saying goodbye to Elias, Torion heard news of a major war happening in the east.  He joined a mercenary company and befriended the supply master, Tomasz.  The eastern lord that Torion and his future companions had supported was defeated in a battle, and having no other use for their mercenary prowess, Torion and his companions headed west to the be adventurers.

D&D Day 2.5: Darkness and Elementals

Day 2.5

Through the portal the party lands on a crystalline bridge and see a Genasi warlord fighting alone against elementals.  They jump to the rescue and help out Firajal of Pyreburg.  The firesoul Genasi agrees to lead them to his village and along the way they get assaulted by elemental scorpions and other enemies.  Vanielle opens a treasure chest and darkness surrounds her--she fights against shadow versions of her companions, and comes out of the shadow realm transformed as an Assassin.

They encounter a large group of elementals, an invasion force slowly marching its way to Firajal's outpost and manage to take out a small force.

They rest at Pyreburg and the group separates again to their own affairs.  Hadarai gains a blessing from a primordial shrine, Thorry the Reckless haggles with a shopkeeper, Vanielle and Konthane rest at an inn, and Torion goes to the barracks to discover the location of Alzedril and her group.

The next day they are awakened by the sounds of battle.  The invasion of elementals struck earlier than expected.  The party manages to defeat a force of them as the Pyreburg soldiers bring order to the different quarters of the town.

D&D Day 2: Through the Chaos Portal

Day 2

As the party leaves the temple, they encounter the other party the elder sent to quell the bandit attacks.  The leader Alzedril, an Eladrin bard, demands the ruby shard or else Groln, the half orc warden will crush Tomasz.  As the party considers options including attack, one of Alzedril's group, a dark knight, teleports behind Torion, the minotaur, and whispers, "don't even think about it."  Reluctantly the party hands over the shard, and Alzedril uses its primordial magic to blast Thorry the Reckless, the Tiefling Skald.  Alzedril laughs as her party leaves them to recover.

After returning to Duskhome and finding no trace of the elder or Alzedril's group, the party decides to take a break and disband until the next day.  Thorry the Reckless and Torion head to one tavern, and Konthane, the Changeling rogue, and Vanielle, the Elf rogue head to another.  Hadarai, the Eladrin arcanist, heads to the library to look for primordial knowledge.

The next day they return to the elder's office and find Alzedril being refused the reward for clearing out the bandits.  The elder's scouts had seen the truth and offer Torion's party the reward.  As they leave the elder's office they are attacked by Alzedril and her group.  The magic of the ruby shard causes them to lose consciousness and when the party awakes they see a portal in the center of Duskhome leading to the Elemental Chaos.  With a plea from the elf elder the party go through the portal.

Day 1

On the road to the Temple of Avandra, the party members awake to find their guide and companion, the traveling trader Tomasz, giving them their quest.  Bandits have been stealing from the elven village of Duskhome, and the elder has asked for two groups of adventurers to stop the thievery.  The temple, long abandoned by travelers, has become a hideout for the bandits, and has been redesigned with traps and other dangers.

After fighting off a majority of the bandits, they travel deeper into the temple's sanctum and find an Eladrin bladesinger named Zarranath.  While he isn't a part of the bandits, he helps them due to some unknown debt and attacks the party.  Torion, the Minotaur Weaponmaster, unleashes his fury and defeats the bladesinger.  In a small room the party finds a cache of treasure chests which turn out to be Mimics.  The party meets the leaders of the bandits, two halfling twin rogues named Merin and Ferin.  The twins escape but leave behind a magical ruby shard.

D&D Day 3: Temple of the Forgotten Primordial

Day 3

After fighting back an invasion of elementals, the party continues on towards the temple where Alzedril and her gang are conducting some evil ritual.  With Firajal, the Firesoul Genasi Warlord, as their guide, they decide to go to the Ice Pools, a terrain of frigid cold and blinding snow.  They reconnect with Zarranath the Bladesinger, hunting for a fey beast, and they join together for a short time.  They defeat a young blizzard dragon as they navigate the pools.

Firajal, gets the party lost, and they find themselves in the Lightning Plains, a land covered in a dangerous storm.  As they approach the temple they find Zarranath's quarry, a Phase Spider, and while he charges in to battle it by himself, the others find themselves with enough elementals to deal with.

Konthane, the Changeling Rogue, falls in the battle, but Zarranath offers to take him back to camp to see if there is a healer who can revive him.  As the rest of the party continues into the temple, they hear the thunderous voice of Groln, Alzedril's half orc warden, who throws the power of the earth at them using a orange crystal shard.
